Developing health information systems in developing countries: Lessons learnt from a longitudinal action research study in Vietnam

Designing and implementing health information systems (HISs) in developing-country settings is challenging. Many HISs do not go beyond the pilot stage tend to vanish when external funding over. In other cases, multiple fragmented remain, but these are unable talk each other. And more often than not, data collected by used decision making. To better understand address problems, this article employs an infrastructure (II) perspective views as parts of larger complex social-technical networks. This contributes current knowledge with a set rich empirical descriptions design implementation Vietnam. Theoretically, it II discussions domain presenting four problems suggesting five principles 15 rules meet them. These also offer practical guidance for managers designers involved developing countries.
